Literacy Volunteers of Sullivan County is proud
of its new location! Our new Literacy Center is on North Street
in Monticello, across from the County Government Center in the former
Social Security building. The building was awarded to us by the
federal government based on the literacy needs of our county residents.
We now have the opportunity to use this larger space to improve
the quality and intensity of our instructional programs.
Our not-for-profit bookstore is an ongoing fundraiser
for Literacy Volunteers. Equally important, the bookstore provides
the people of Sullivan County gently used books at very reasonable
prices. Our new location gives us the room we need to display our
wonderful collection of books and gratefully to receive new donations.
As a not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping
individuals improve their reading, writing, and speaking skills,
we have accomplished much since our founding here in Sullivan County
in 1994, with hundreds of students benefitting from our programs
and training.
Literacy Volunteers is succeeding in its mission.
We have had an increase in tutors as a result of a large tutor recruitment
effort. We have also had an increase in students. There are always
students who are waiting for tutors--we seem to be growing at an
unexpectedly fast pace.
Contact us for upcoming tutor trainings and workshops.
